Yonkers Ukrainian Youth Center packs a truckload of supplies bound for Ukraine
A truckload of supplies is now heading to Ukraine following a successful donation drive to the Ukrainian Youth Center in Yonkers.
It all started with two Yonkers women of Ukrainian descent who wanted to help.
The donations are primarily for babies, children and mothers now fleeing violence in Ukraine. Everything from diapers to clothes was loaded onto a 30ft moving truck donated by Al’s Moving and Storage in White Plains.
The truck will head to Fort Lee, New Jersey, where the supplies will be loaded onto a cargo plane bound for Poland.
News 12 spoke to one of the organizers, who said she was overwhelmed by the show of support and explained what motivated her to organize the fundraiser. “Doing that was a good way to escape cover. Focus on something to help rather than just sit and watch. It’s really upsetting, I mean, it’s just heartbreaking” , said Tatiana Anderson, of Yonkers.
Although they no longer accept donated supplies, there are still used clothes donated to the youth center. They hope to save them for the next stage of this project, which he hopes will be to welcome Ukrainian refugees to this community.
