Country desperately needs skilled young people: minister – Journal
ISLAMABAD: Education and Vocational Training Minister Shafqat Mehmood said the country desperately needs qualified young people as they will play an important role in creating job opportunities as well as national prosperity.
The Minister voiced these views during the inauguration of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Center of Excellence (CoE), Islamabad, which has recently been upgraded with all state-of-the-art facilities.
He called the launch of a fully equipped Center of Excellence a milestone achievement,
He said Pakistan also needs to increase its share of jobs in the international labor market and can achieve this by providing more and more vocational training facilities across the country.
He said this center would train the workforce in modern technologies and skills to be competitive in the national and international job market.
The event brought together the Federal Additional Secretary for Education and Vocational Training, representatives of the private sector, bodies responsible for technical and vocational education and training (TVET), teachers and students.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Cluster Leader for Training and Sustainable Growth for Decent Jobs GIZ Pakistan, Mr. Olaf Handloegten appreciated the initiative and hopes NAVTTC management will take advantage of the improved training facilities to TVET teachers and trainees and devise mechanisms to ensure that this center lives up to its full potential.
“Now is the time for NAVTTC and the private sector to ensure the sustainability of these efforts and achievements,” he said.
